The initiative was the first of its kind, attracting many participants from Pakistan and abroad. Amidst the unrelenting contest, we saw Basit Javed emerge as the winner, taking home a cash prize of Rs. 100,000. Syed Muhammad Ali Shah and Muhammad Arsalan clinched the second and third prizes, respectively, with cash prizes of Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 25,000.

Basit Javed, winner of the inaugural Sarmaaya Khelo Investment World Cup 2023 said,

"The competition was life changing as an investor and a trader. Previously, I wasn't trading regularly, but after the competition, I am more confident in my trades. Using virtual funds to trade helped me find the right strategy to implement in my actual stocks on PSX. I was researching regularly, thinking about the fundamentals and technical side of stocks before investing. I would say I am more disciplined and actively trading post-competition in new scripts that I haven't looked at in the last four years."

The winners were selected based on their performance over the competition period from October 5 to November 19, 2023. Participants were tasked with trading on a simulated platform mirroring real-time market data from the Pakistan Stock Exchange but with an added twist of Cricket Fantasy League. The top three traders with the highest Return on Investment (ROI) at the end of the competition were declared winners.

Runnerup Syed Muhammad Ali Shah shared his feedback and said,

“I did enjoy during the competition. Best thing was we remained invested in 11 stocks throughout the competition and not allowed to remain in cash. It made me work continuously on other stocks, which one will be my next gem to pick. If I exit from one trade in profit I have to immediately select the other stock that should give me more gains, not to eat up the profits I have made previously. It changed my trading habits as well. Before the competition, if I am in a trade, I never look for other trades, I just watch my trade how close I am to the target profit or my stop loss but now if I am in a trade, I am searching for the next trade”.

“Sarmaya Khelo competition is a wonderful initiative that helped me understand different sectors of PSX and enabled me to analyse companies in more depth. I'm now more confident while investing and I think I can make much better decisions, my aim is to invest in the Pakistan Stock Exchange regularly, following the strategies that worked for me during the competition.
